In Uttar Pradesh, the income certificate (आय प्रमाण पत्र) is issued by the Revenue Department through the state’s e-District system, and you can apply online yourself through the e-Sathi citizen portal (esathi.up.gov.in) or at any registered Common Service Centre (CSC/Jan Seva Kendra). As the official e-District services page explains, the certificate certifies the annual income of a person or their family from every source — salary, pension, rent, property income and so on — and you must state your job/profession details and the purpose for which you need the certificate. All facts here are verified from edistrict.up.gov.in.

Current status
The e-District UP portal is live (checked 15 July 2026). The portal reports more than 1.5 lakh registered CSCs and over a crore registered applications across services, with income certificate listed among the Revenue Department services currently offered online.
Objective of the certificate
The income certificate documents your family’s annual income so that you can access income-linked government benefits. Per the official service description, it helps citizens avail various government benefits and subsidies — in practice it is demanded for scholarships, fee waivers, EWS-related processes and many welfare schemes.
Benefit
- A digitally issued certificate recognised across government processes in UP.
- Apply from home via e-Sathi (or the e-Sathi mobile app) without visiting the tehsil.
- Anyone (colleges, employers, departments) can verify your certificate’s genuineness online through the portal’s certificate verification facility, which protects you from disputes.
Eligibility
Residents of Uttar Pradesh who need to certify their own or their family’s annual income can apply. When applying, you must provide your job/profession-related information and clearly state the purpose for which the income certificate is required — the official description makes both mandatory parts of the application.
Exclusions
There is no excluded category listed for this service. However, the income you declare is verified through revenue machinery (lekhpal/tehsil level), and a certificate obtained on false declarations can be cancelled and invite action. Declare income honestly, including all sources.
Documents required
The authoritative checklist is the official PDF: Income Certificate — procedure and checklist. Alongside it, the portal provides the prescribed application format and a self-declaration form (स्वप्रमाणित घोषणा पत्र) in its downloads section. Keep ready, as per the application format:
- Identity and address details of the applicant.
- Details of occupation/employment and income from all sources (salary, pension, rent, property etc.).
- The stated purpose for which the certificate is needed.
- Self-attested declaration as per the portal’s downloadable format.
Fees
A service charge applies for e-District services and is collected online at the payment step on e-Sathi (or at the CSC counter as per government-fixed rates). The exact current amount is shown on the portal at the time of submission — pay only what the portal/CSC receipt shows, nothing more.
Deadlines
There is no deadline — applications are accepted year-round. No official deadline announced.
How to apply online via e-Sathi (step by step)
- Open the e-Sathi citizen portal: https://esathi.up.gov.in/citizenservices/login/login.aspx (also reachable from edistrict.up.gov.in → सिटिजन पोर्टल / Citizen Login).
- New users: register yourself first (create your citizen login with your mobile number), then log in.
- After login, choose the application for आय प्रमाण पत्र (Income Certificate) from the available certificate services.
- Fill the online form: personal details, occupation/job details, income from every source, and the purpose of the certificate.
- Upload/attach the required documents including the self-declaration, as per the official checklist PDF.
- Pay the service charge online and submit. Save the application number shown on the acknowledgement — you need it for status checks.
- Once issued, download the digitally signed certificate from your e-Sathi account. The e-Sathi UP mobile app (Ver 3.1), linked on the e-District portal, offers the same citizen services from your phone.
Offline / assisted route
Visit any registered CSC / Jan Seva Kendra (the portal’s सेवाकेन्द्र section lists centres — there are over 1.5 lakh registered CSCs). The operator submits the same e-District application on your behalf and gives you a receipt with the application number. This is the recommended route if you do not have internet access.
How to check status
On edistrict.up.gov.in, use “आवेदन की स्थिति” (Application Status) and enter your application number. The same portal provides “प्रमाण पत्र का सत्यापन” (Certificate Verification) where anyone can validate an issued certificate — useful when a college or office questions your document.
Corrections
If your issued certificate carries an error (spelling, income figure, address), the correction is handled through the same system — apply afresh/for correction via e-Sathi or your CSC, and for disputes contact the tehsil office concerned, since the Revenue Department (tehsildar level) is the issuing authority responsible for the certificate’s content.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Understating or omitting income sources — the certificate covers income from all sources, and false declarations can be cancelled.
- Not stating the purpose of the certificate, which the application specifically requires.
- Losing the application number, without which status tracking is difficult.
- Paying inflated “agent charges” — only the portal/CSC-receipted government service charge is payable.
- Assuming old certificates remain valid forever — departments that demand the certificate often require a recent one; check the validity requirement of the scheme you are applying to.
Helpline / contact
The e-District portal provides a संपर्क करें (Contact Us) section and an FAQ section on edistrict.up.gov.in for service-related queries. For application-level disputes, the concerned tehsil (Revenue Department) is the responsible office; for portal/CSC issues, use the contact details published on the portal.
What if the portal is down?
If e-Sathi is temporarily unavailable, you can apply through any CSC/Jan Seva Kendra, since both routes feed the same e-District system. If both are affected, wait and retry — applications are accepted year-round, and your rights are not affected by a temporary outage.
