The Uttar Pradesh scholarship is one of the largest student welfare schemes in the country, helping lakhs of SC, ST, OBC, general and minority students continue their education — and every year it is applied for online at scholarship.up.gov.in. Whether your child is in Class 9–10 (pre-matric) or in Class 11 and above (post-matric), this guide explains who is eligible, the documents needed, how to register fresh or renew, and how to track the payment.

Who is eligible?
Students must be domiciled in Uttar Pradesh, studying in a recognised institution, and belong to the income limit notified for their category. The scholarship covers maintenance and, for many categories, fee reimbursement. The exact income ceiling and rates differ for SC/ST, OBC, general and minority students, so check the notice for your category.
Documents you need
- Aadhaar and an Aadhaar-linked bank account
- Latest income certificate (from UP e-District)
- Caste certificate (for SC/ST/OBC)
- Previous class marksheet and the current admission/fee receipt
How to apply (fresh registration)
- On scholarship.up.gov.in, choose “Student → New Registration” for pre-matric or post-matric.
- Fill your personal, academic and bank details and note the registration number.
- Log in again, complete the full form, upload documents, and submit and lock the application.
- Take a printout and submit it (with documents) to your institution for verification.
Renewal and status
If you received the scholarship last year, use the “Renewal” option — you do not register again. To check where your application stands, use “Status” with your registration number; once approved, the amount is credited via DBT to your bank account.
Why payments get stuck
The most common reasons are an Aadhaar not seeded with the bank, a wrong account number, an unverified application at the institution, or a mismatched income/caste certificate. Fix these and the payment usually goes through in the next cycle.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to apply every year?
Yes — you renew each academic year; you do not do a fresh registration if you are continuing.
Is Aadhaar compulsory?
Yes — the money is paid through DBT, so an Aadhaar-linked bank account is required.
My status shows “forwarded to institute.” What next?
Your institution must verify it — follow up with your college/school office.
